A Comparative Study of Explicit and Stable Time Integration Schemes for Heat Conduction in an Insulated Wall

Calculating heat transfer in building components is an important and nontrivial task. Thus, this work, we extensively examined 13 numerical methods to solve the linear conduction equation walls. Eight of used are recently invented explicit algorithms which unconditionally stable. First, performed verification tests a 2D case by comparing them analytical solutions, using equidistant non-equidistant grids. Then tested on real-life applications one-layer (brick) two-layer (brick insulator) walls determine how errors depend real properties materials, mesh type, time step size. We applied space-dependent boundary conditions brick side time-dependent insulation side. The results show that best algorithm usually original odd-even hopscotch method for uniform cases leapfrog-hopscotch non-uniform cases.
